About our Area

We are privileged to live and work on this beautiful part of the West Sussex coast, in the shelter of the South Downs to the north and the English Channel to the south. Bounded by the River Arun & Bognor Regis to the west and Worthing to the east, the area is regarded by the Met office to enjoy a micro-climate, with longer hours of sunshine and less rainfall than elsewhere in the area.

This coastal plain has long been popular with retirees from London and the Home Counties but latterly it has also attracted younger generations as all age groups can enjoy the wealth of land and water-based leisure and sporting facilities, as well as cinemas, theatres and special events throughout the year.

The South Downs still possess a rare tranquillity and provide excellent riding and walking country and the Downland villages retain much of their former character and a good Pub or two!

The unspoilt beaches have long been enjoyed by the fortunate few who have discovered this area, being only about one and a half hours journey from London and therefore one of the closest quality coastal locations for those people to commute or enjoy for their second home. At low tide there are miles of open sand whilst when high, the shingle beach and adjoining Greenswards provide long walks by the sea.

The coastal locations served by our three offices offer a diverse cross-section of properties, from still-affordable first-time buyer apartments to very privately situated multi-million pound homes. Discerning purchasers of all age groups are now being attracted to the area in increasing numbers and whilst East Preston and its neighbour, Angmering-on-Sea together with vibrant Rustington are regarded as being some of the most expensive coastal villages in West Sussex, prices are still far lower than those in London, the Home Counties and other more suburban areas.

The glamour of Brighton is about fifteen miles to east and sophisticated Chichester is a similar distance to the west. Both are served by regular train services that also extend to Gatwick airport, some 45 minutes and London Victoria in 1.5 hours.

Historic Arundel is only four miles inland, being well known for its Annual Festival, historic buildings and riverside location together with the prominently situated Cathedral and Castle that can be seen from miles around.

The Goodwood Estate is about half an hour’s drive and offers an increasingly diverse range of world-acclaimed events in the social and sporting calendar. These include the Festival of Speed and Revival meetings for the motor racing fanatics, ‘Glorious Goodwood’ horse racing on the beautiful Downland course, not to mention the magnificent Goodwood House and challenging golf course.

On the lighter side of entertainment, every year the annual Birdman Rally at Bognor Regis is one of the more unusual events, designed to test man’s maximum flight distance whilst dressed as a bird or plane! Elsewhere, many of the local villages have fetes, carnivals, travelling funfairs and circuses.

Lovers of sailing, kite & board surfing, golfing, bowling and tennis are spoilt for choice along this stretch of the coastline as all these activities can be enjoyed within a mile or so of our offices, as well as health clubs at Esporta at Rustington and David Lloyd in Worthing.

The area is well served with a variety of State and Private schools and full details of these and a host of other useful information is on the West Sussex County Council website – www.westsussex.gov.uk

Our Local Authority, Arun District Council, have two excellent websites that provide a huge amount of local and tourist information. We recommend you to visit their sites on - www.arun.gov.uk and click on ‘What’s On’ www.sussexbythesea.com
