Littlehampton - ‘The place to be’ | Population c, 30,000
According to Property Columnists, Littlehampton is regarded as one of the South Coast resorts to move to, enjoying the ripple-effect of sales successes along the coast in Brighton, Hove, Shoreham & Worthing.
Set at the mouth of the River Arun, Littlehampton’s maritime history goes back many centuries, once a thriving Channel port but now a haven for sailing and other nautical activities including fishing and diving. It has hosted annual rounds in the Power Boat racing calendar and is now a centre for kite surfing.
During recent years the majority of the river’s East Bank has been totally redeveloped, displaying a stunning range of architectural styles and colours. It incorporates a river walkway running up-river from the new Harbour Master’s office. The waterfront now offers a variety of homes for full or part-time occupation and for letting investment. The new lifeboat station and boat launching ramp are in the centre of this area together the striking ‘Look & Sea Centre’ that has a maritime museum, popular riverside café and sensational views down-river to the sea and westwards across the Arun, over the Littlehampton Golf Course towards the sand dunes at Climping. The Arun Yacht club has an active membership and mooring facilities are available upstream at the Littlehampton Marina, as well as via the Harbour Master, subject to availability.
Littlehampton has a wide cross-section of property available for sale and to rent, much of it being in more affordable price ranges than those homes in Rustington, East Preston & elsewhere. The old part of the town displays some stunning examples of historic architecture, some overlooking the tennis courts adjacent to the seafront and pleasure gardens. The most recent addition to the changing waterfront is the construction of the controversially styled, but award-winning East Beach Café, designed by the iconic Thomas Heatherwick adjoining the promenade and overlooking the extensive sandy beach.
The town offers a variety of amenities and clubs for most tastes and age groups. There are an increasing number of bars and restaurants in the town together with the famous fish & chip shops that line the riverside in Pier Road, where holidaymakers mix with locals and sit and enjoy the most fabulous sunsets over the river. The station has services to London and the coastal towns and buses connect locally. Both Tesco & Sainburys are represented and the pedestrianised High Street has a broad selection of shops.
We have well-established sales and letting offices situated at the eastern end of the High Street, adjacent to Barclays Bank. Residential Sales at 75 High Street, Littlehampton - telephone: 01903 717177. For Residential Lettings - telephone: 01903 715555.
